Local historian and Chamber of Commerce help bring Royal Hanneford Circus to Clinton this fall

CLINTON — For local historian Peggy Adler, 82, it’s only fitting that the town hosts an old-fashioned circus at Clinton Premium Outlets. After all, it was once home to the famous Pallenberg bears that performed with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey.

While there will be no roller skating, cycling and dancing "wonder bears," the Royal Hanneford Circus will feature miniature horses and waltzing Highland cows under the big top in the parking lot at the outlets this fall.

The Clinton Chamber of Commerce, co-sponsor of the three-day event Oct. 4-6 with the Hanneford Circus, will have 500 tickets to sell in mid-June before general ticket sales open to the public.

At this circus, there also will be no “exotics” such as elephants, lions and tigers, which have been banned in traveling shows in most states, according to Adrian Poema, who runs the family circus with his wife, Nellie Hanneford.
